One person injured in east Wichita fire

Wichita Fire crews battled an apartment fire this morning in east Wichita.

The fire was reported just after 9 a.m., in the 2700 block of east Douglas, at Douglas and Estelle. 

When crews arrived, they reported smoke in the interior of the structure.

The fire was brought under control just before 9:30 a.m. and all residents are accounted for there at the complex.

EMS reports one person has serious injuries but refused transport to a local hospital.

Douglas remains closed to through traffic, between Grove and Hillside.

The Red Cross is on the scene to assist those people displaced by the fire.

There's no word on what started the blaze and a damage estimate is not yet available.
