Operation Holiday in need of food donation transfusions, stat!

One of Wichita's biggest charities is having a tough time getting donations for needy families this year.

Operation Holiday is running into one of it’s worst food shortages ever.

Ashley Davis, Operation Holiday director, says that, “Never in the 18 years that I’ve been in and out of this program have I seen the overall food numbers down where they are this year.”

Since the organization made a plea on Thursday, more donations have trickled in, but the group is still down more than half of the canned goods they'd normally have at this point in the season.

Distribution for the agency takes place next Thursday through Saturday, December 13-15.

Donations to nonprofits have been trending downward all over the United States this year. No definite reason has been given by experts, but positive economic headlines and the popularity of Crowdfunding sites are playing a factor, making the mission of groups like Operation Holiday harder.

Donations will be accepted at the warehouse in the old Sears store at Town West Mall in Wichita until distribution begins.
