Overnight fire breaks out in northeast Wichita

June 08, 2019 - 6:58 am

Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a two-alarm blaze that broke out in a commercial building on the city's northeast side.

It happened just before 11 o'clock Friday night, near 37th Street North and Comotara Street.

When crews arrived, thick black smoke and flames were showing from the building.

Wichita Fire Chief Tammy Snow tells KAKE-TV what crews found when they arrived.

"It looked like the fire actually started elsewhere in an office area, went up the side of a wall into the mezzanine area.  So once we got inside and was able to open things up we were able to extinguish the fire," she said.

That commercial building is home to three businesses, one of which will have to shut down for the time being.

No injuries were reported.  There's no word on what caused that fire nor a damage estimate at this time.
