Parents warned of "Momo" suicide challenge

Authorities in the United States and in several other countries around the world are warning parents about the so-called, "Momo" suicide challenge.

The online "game" uses a disturbing piece of artwork, also known as an avatar, called "Momo."

The "Momo" suicide challenge begins when players of the game add their numbers on WhatsApp. "Momo" begins sending the players violent images, then tells users they have to follow certain "orders" and threatens to release personal information about the person if they don't.

Authorities in Argentina say the "Momo" challenge may have resulted in the suicide of a 12-year-old girl.

The "Momo challenge" is similar to the "Blue Whale" suicide challenge which resulted in hundreds of teen deaths in Russia in 2016.
