Three pit bulls rescued by the Wichita Police Department late last month after officers uncovered what they believe to be a dog fighting ring are getting a new "leash" on life.

One of the dogs passed away from hookworms and malnourishment, but Beauties and Beasts Animal Rescue
went to the Wichita Animal Shelter yesdterday  afternoon to pick up the other dogs. They now have new names: Miles and Smiles.

Carter stressed the importance of getting these dogs out of a terrible situation. For her, it was important to try to rehab them, because she believes that with proper care, love and time the dogs can be amazing family pets.

The dogs were found at a home in the 1300 block of North Chautauqua Street. Wichita police say the investigation into the possible dog fighting ring is ongoing and that no arrests have been made.
