Police:  Arrest made in Wichita homicide

The Wichita Police Department (WPD) has arrested Zachary L. Province, 37, of Haysville, on charges of 2nd-degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm.

Recently, Province arrived at an area hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his body. He was released Sunday afternoon and booked on the charges.

At approximately 5:15 a.m., Monday, June 29, officers responded to a shooting call in the 6900 block of E. Ayesbury Circle. 

Upon arrival, they located Steele, who was injured and unresponsive from a gunshot wound. Medical personnel was called to the scene and performed life-saving measures. 

Steele was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation revealed that Steele and his girlfriend were at the home of a friend on Ayesbury. Zachary arrived at the home, and a disturbance ensued concerning property. During the disturbance, multiple shots were fired, striking Steele.

This was not a random incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
