Police:  Girl, 2, injured in Wichita playground shooting

August 16, 2018 - 10:06 pm

A girl, 2, is recovering after she was struck in the foot during a shooting.  It happened around 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night, in the 3800 block of E. Ross Park Way in the Planeview neighborhood.

Wichita police officer Paul Cruz said the girl was struck in the foot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries while she was at the playground.

Cruz said three other children, ranging in age from eight to 16 were also at the playground at the time of the shooting.

Investigators say an unknown suspect fired several shots from a white Impala at the playground. The girl's  father, 26, grabbed her and ran to a nearby apartment complex and then took her to an emergency room, police say.

KSN News reports authorities are saying the parents of the injured girl are not cooperating with investigators, making it difficult to identify a suspect at this time.

Investigators say the shooting is related to an ongoing feud between two street gangs.

Wichita Police Chief Gordon Ramsay said the WPD is using every resource to solve the crime including engaging the Violent Crime Taskforce.
