Suspect killed in a standoff with officers

Three Kansas city police offers were shot Sunday afternoon. 

The shootings happened just before noon on Sunday. Three Kansas City police officers were shot near Highway 40 and Manchester. The officers have been taken to a Kansas City hospital where they are all expected to recover.

A KCPD spokesperson said the first two officers who were shot were working undercover around the Sky-Vu motel when the suspect fired at them with a rifle.

Shortly after officers shut down I-70 at Manchester and Van Brunt to search for a possible suspect. Eventually, they were called to 30th and Topping, where the suspect exchanged fire with police, striking a third officer.

The suspect, who was a person of interest in the July 6th murder of 25-year-old UMKC student Sharath Koppu, was killed in the standoff around 2:00 PM.
