Police:  Wichita man injured by fireworks mortar shot into car

The Wichita Police Department (WPD) is investigating an aggravated battery incident that injured a man, 29 

At approximately 2:10 a.m. Wednesday morning, officers responded to a burns call at an apartment complex in the 500 block of West 33rd Street.  Upon arrival, officers contacted the man, who was burned from a firework mortar that was shot at him.  The man was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation revealed that the man was driving in the 3000 block of North Arkansas with his windows down.  He reported that a fireworks mortar was fired into the vehicle, landed on him, and exploded.  He then observed two unknown males in their teens or early twenties running across Arkansas to an unknown location.

The man went into a nearby convenience store to seek assistance.

The case remains under investigation.
