August 25, 2018 - 8:42 am

Less than 800 customers remain without power in Hutchinson, after a possible downburst caused damage early Saturday morning.

Hutchinson Police say the storm popped up just after 12:30 AM, causing widespread damage to trees and homes between 4th Street and 23rd Street - west to east - across the city.

A wind gust of 79 miles per hour was recorded at Hutchinson Regional Airport during the storm.

Westar Energy says crews are working to get service restored but customers will experience longer than normal restoration times.  Westar says all customers should be restored by 2:00 PM this afternoon.

Reno County dispatchers say no serious injuries were reported.
