Workers made an unsettling discovery Monday morning in Derby.
Around 10 a.m., Derby police responded to a call at business in the 100 block of W. Market. Workers renovating a building discovered what appeared to be a coffin in the attic containing possible human skeletal remains. The coffin may have been there for an extended period of time.
The Derby Police Department is being assisted by the Sedgwick County Coroner's Office to determine if the skeletal remains are human. Derby will also work with experts to attempt to determine the age and gender of the remains.
Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to call the Derby Police Department at 788-1557 or 911.
