Possible stormy weather keeps lake-goers on their toes

Many Kansans like to spend Labor Day at the lake, but with the possibility of storms in the forecast, park rangers encourage visitors to be prepared!

Some lakes, such as Sedgwick County's Lake Afton park, have storm shelters placed in the area in case of inclement weather. Should an emergency arise, park rangers will inform campers to take shelter. Tents are not safe places to shelter in severe weather.

LisaTeachman of KSN advises downloading a weather app, such as the Storm Track 3 app, which can issue alerts to your phone when your area is affected by severe weather. This weekend, that could include 60mph winds or possible quarter-sized hail.
She also says to remember that if you can hear the thunder, you're close enough to get struck by lightning.
