Residents of Hays preparing for water restrictions

May 15, 2018 - 10:18 pm

Residents of Hays will soon be restricted on when they can water their gardens and yards.

Residents of the city of Hays will be discouraged from using water for outside projects from noon to 7 p.m. The restriction begins June 1 and continues until the middle of September. Hays and private well owners need to be mindful of conserving water, because there isn't a long-term, sustainable water resource close by.

The restriction applies to the City of Hays and private well owners, the city says. A water conservation specialist says limiting the number of hours people water their yards helps them become more efficient, because during the hottest hours of the day, much of the water gets lost due to evaporation and wind.
