Residents in east Wichita heard loud explosions Monday.  Turns out it was police training.

SWAT officials were doing tactical exercises in a neighborhood off Douglas and West Parkway.  KSN News spoke with neighborhood resident Charlotte Kleffner who called 911 after hearing the explosions.

"I looked around, called 911, she couldn't tell me anything," said Kleffner. "She said 'I don't know, can you see smoke somewhere?"

Police Chief Gordon Ramsay issued an apology for all area residents not being notified. It read in part, "I sincerely apologize to the residents who were alarmed and upset by this incident and it will not happen again."

Ramsay also went on to say that a year ago he mandated improved training notifications to area property owners, and those orders were not followed.
