S. Wichita: Woman Killed by Suspected Drunk Driver on Labor Day

A woman died in a traffic accident on Labor Day in the south part of Wichita, after she was hit by a suspected drunk driver.

The woman was driving a Buick Sentry on Monday afternoon; she was east-bound on 31st South. Meanwhile, 34-year-old Monty Carpenter was south-bound on McLean Boulevard in a Ford Freestar.

Investigators believe Carpenter ran a red light, hitting the woman's car, pinning her in the wreckage. The woman was hospitalized, but died from her injuries.

Carpenter ran away from the scene, but with the help of residents in the area, police officer located him, taking him into custody. He was arrested and booked into jail for involuntary manslaughter, hit-&-run, driving under the influence, and driving on a suspended license.

The deceased victim has been identified as 56-year-old Marsha Oglesby.
