Schoolchildren will participate in more emergency drills at school this year

The number of emergency preparedness drills in Kansas schools will rise to 16 per year.

This includes four fire drills, three tornado drills, and nine crisis drills per year. The idea behind doing so many drills is that the students and staff will know exactly how to respond and what to do in any given emergency situation.

These crisis drills range from lockdown procedures to police and medical emergency responses. Also included this year is the "Run-Hide-Fight" intruder response, which will help children know what to do if a violent intruder comes into the building.
