SE Wichita: Stolen Pickup in Creek

WICHITA, Kan. - Another auto theft in Wichita, with the car running, and unattended.

The most recent case happened at about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 3100 block of S. George Washington Boulevard, where a 34-year-old man left his pickup truck running.

Police Sgt. Nikki Woodrow says officers soon located the stolen truck at George Washington Boulevard & Oliver; the driver would not pull over, leading to a pursuit.

The suspect drove through a chain-link fence at a business in the 2800 block of S. Hillside, went through the parking lot, and into the Gypsum Creek behing the business. The suspect tried to run away, but was apprehended by officers.

The 36-year-old suspect was booked into jail for auto theft, traffic charges, destruction of property, an aggravated weapons violation, and an outstanding arrest warrant.
