Security website releases list of Kansas' safest cities

Home security review website has announced its safest cities in Kansas list for 2019. Rebecca Edwards with Safewise says the list consists of 64 cities.

“The Top 20 included Hesston at number one, said Edwards.  "Rose Hill debuting on the list at number two and Fairway rounding out the top three.”

Edwards says the 20 safest cities in Kansas are all well below both state and national violent crime rates, with each reporting under two violent crime incidents per 1,000 people.

“We chose a population threshold, the median population in the state, then we excluded cities that were smaller than that,” said Edwards. “We looked at the rate of violent crimes per 1000 residents. If there was a tie, we then factored in property crime.”

Among the safest cities, 60% had eight or fewer total violent crimes in 2017.  In the Wichita area joining Rose Hill in the top ten were Mulvane at #7 and Derby at #9.  Wichita itself ranked last on the list.
