It was a 3-2 vote but Sedgwick County Commissioners affirmed the new health order from Health Officer Dr. Garold Minns.

The mask mandate now applies to everyone over the age of five. Previously it was 11 and older.

Bars can re-open at 50-percent capacity and must close at 11 p.m. They can offer curbside and carry out services after closing.

Dr. Minns says there are many unknowns as schools open or plan to open for the first time since the pandemic began. He was asked what would happen if the county chose to have no health orders.

“I’d ask you to look back at what happened at the end of May. There was no order. There was a recommendation that people wear masks but there was no mandate. You look at the numbers on the chart. I assume there was a cause-effect there. I don’t think we want to repeat that because things were getting out of control in July,” Dr. Minns stated.

The new order ends Tuesday, September 8th.
