Sedgwick County pulls bid for Tyson chicken plant

Sedgwick County has withdrawn its bid for a Tyson Foods chicken processing plant.  The move comes following several weeks of public opposition.

The Wichita Eagle reports the Greater Wichita Partnership confirmed on Thursday that Sedgwick County has taken itself out of the running for the project.

Opponents of the plant say it was their belief that the company wanted an offer of tax breaks or other financial perks before considering a site.

County Commissioner Richard Ranzau commented on Wednesday that there isn't enough support from the commission to offer Tyson financial incentives to build the facility.

The yet to be determined location, would likely see a $320 million construction budget and about 1,600 permanent jobs.
