Sedgwick County sees surge in residents seeking COVID-19 testing

June 25, 2020 - 8:33 pm

More than 800 asymptomatic residents have been tested for COVID-19 by the Health Department. The high, sustained interest in residents seeking testing was not anticipated, and the Health Department has added more staff to accommodate the call volume.

Residents who are symptomatic will always receive priority scheduling and should receive a call back within 24 hours to schedule an appointment. Asymptomatic residents should receive a call from the Health Department within 48 hours. Sedgwick County is asking for patience on wait time if you are asymptomatic and would like to receive a COVID-19 test.

Additionally, the County is not the only provider testing residents. Other community health organizations may be able to test as well. The Health Department sampling is offered at no cost to residents. Insurance will be billed if available.

There is no vaccine or treatment for COVID-19. As businesses and organizations reopen, it is important to remember and to use prevention measures like washing your hands often with soap and water, wear a face mask while in public (if you are able), and practice social distancing by keeping six feet of space between you and others.
