Storms bring damaging winds and large hail to western Kansas

NWS reports one brief tornado

Storms with heavy rain and large hail struck in western Kansas Tuesday, with baseball-size hail reported at Oakley in Logan County, and heavy rain that caused flooding in Scott County.

Scott County emergency management director Tim Stoecklein reported a storm there dropped 2.1 inches of rain on Scott City. He said the storm caused flooding on several streets, resulting in stalled vehicles but no injuries. 

High winds caused damage near Hays in Ellis County. The National Weather Service received several reports of damage, including metal building damaged or destroyed as well as numerous power poles down around Hays.

77 mph winds were reported at St. Francis in Cheyenne County, and 70 miles per hour southwest of Wheeler in Cheyenne County.  The National Weather Service reported a tornado touched down briefly about two miles north of Bird City in Cheyenne County at 7:36 p.m. There were no reports of damage or injuries from that brief tornado.
