Storms roll through Wichita causing power outages

August 21, 2019 - 11:35 pm

Thousands of Westar Energy customers have been without power as heavy storms moved across central Kansas.

Over 5500 customers were without power Wednesday night in central Kansas, including residents in parts of Reno, Marion, and McPherson counties.

As many as 4500 customers were affected in Sedgwick County, including Wichita's Dwight D Eisenhower National Airport.

Storms also knocked down trees and power lines.  A downed tree was reported blocking southbound Oliver at Lincoln, and at Estelle and Funston in east Wichita.

Heavy rains also prompted a Flood Warning which expired before midnight.
