Things got a little testy at Wednesday's Sedgwick County Commission meeting.

At issue was an agreement to reimburse Wichita State $4 million in CARES Act funding for a COVID-19 testing lab for the community. Commissioners Lacey Cruse and David Dennis wanted more time to look over the agreement, having received it Tuesday.

A substitute motion to defer the item for one week failed, prompting this response from Commissioner Dennis. “I hope each and every one of you remember that when you have something you that want deferred, and it gets overturned. We have never, ever denied a commissioner, the ability to get additional information before they voted on something," he said.

Commissioner Jim Howell, participating virtually due to testing positive for the coronavirus, made another substitute motion to defer the item up to 48 hours. That passed unanimously.
