Texas man pleads guilty in Kansas cocaine trafficking case

A Texas man pleaded guilty Tuesday to driving a load of cocaine to Kansas.

Ricardo Daniel Ruiz, 20, of El Paso, Texas, pleaded guilty to one count of interstate travel in furtherance of drug trafficking. In his plea, he admitted that a police officer in Elkhart stopped him for speeding. A search of the vehicle turned up about 15 lbs. of cocaine wrapped in six bundles and hidden beneath the back seat.

Sentencing is set for Nov. 6. He faces a penalty of up to five years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.
