The flu season is here. Sedgwick County Health Director Adrienne Byrne tells KNSS News the vaccine is never a 100% prevention guarantee. Byrne says the vaccine is effective on about 40% of known viruses, and she says that is "really pretty good". Byrne says the shot can still prevent your catching the flu, and can shorten the duration and severity of the flu if you catch it. Byrne says COVID-19 confuses the situation because it shares several flu symptoms. Health officials recommend that everyone over the age of six months get a flu shot.

Byrne commented during the Steve and Ted in the Morning Show on KNSS.
