Thunder nips Quad City in OT 3-2

MOLINE, Illinois - Mark MacMillan scored the game-winner 37 seconds into overtime Friday night, giving the Wichita Thunder a 3-2 victory over the Quad City Mallards at Taxslayer Center.

MacMillan netted a pair of goals, Istvan Sofron added a goal and an assist, and goaltender Joel Rumpel stopped 34 of 36 shots in the winning effort. 

The Thunder and Mallards traded goals through the first two periods. Josh MacDonald gave Quad City a 1-0 lead with six minutes left in the opening frame. MacMillan tied it with 35 seconds left as he found a rebound off the leg pad of C. J. Motte.

In the second, Quad City re-took the lead with a power play goal from Alexander Kuqali at 5:57. Sofron tied the game at 13:33, firing home a one-timer on a beautiful pass across the slot from Dyson Stevenson.

After a scoreless third, MacMillan recorded the game-winner on a two-on-two rush. He came in on his backhand, fired a shot that got through Motte and gave Wichita the win. 
Wichita went 0-for-1 on the power play. Quad City went was 1-for-2 on the man advantage.

The Thunder returns home Saturday night for another meeting against the Mallards at Intrust Bank Arena. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
