A Topeka man will serve 42 months in prison for fleeing from a D-U-I checkpoint.

30 year-old Darryl Kevin Norwood of Topeka pled guilty to 1 count of unlawful possession of a firearm following a felony conviction.

In his plea, he admitted to fleeing from a DUI check lane and leading Topeka police on a chase  at speeds of more than 70 miles per hour. He struck another car and fled on foot before being arrested.

Police found a .38 caliber firearm on the floorboard of his car which he was prohibited from possessing due to a prior felony conviction.

U.S. District Attorney Stephen McAllister said the case was prosecuted under the Department of Justice's Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative.
