Topeka officials say the city's online utilities payment system is safe after a cyber-attack in November.

City spokeswoman Molly Hadfield said the system was breached on Nov. 1. Its billing payment software vendor, Central Square, notified the city of a possible cyber-attack on Dec. 7.

The breach might have affected up to 10,000 Topeka customers.

Hadfield said Central Square has turned over the information to a forensics investigator.

The city staff worked with Central Square to move the current online payment system to a more secure platform.
