Two deputies shot in north central Kansas

Two deputies are hospitalized after being shot at the Jewell County Sheriff's Office in north central Kansas this morning.

WIBW in Topeka is reporting that authorities say the two were shot by a man, identified as Jason Whitson. He ran out of the building and into a light brown Ford Windstar. He is described as bald, 6'3" tall, 179 lbs with multiple tattoos, wearing a black hat and a black shirt. That Windstar has a Kansas Tag: 729 JFG. WIBW reports there was reportedly at least one child in that van.

One deputy was shot in the neck, another was shot in the torso. Neither injury is considered to be life threatening.

UPDATE: KBI says they have the suspect in custody. Suspect did shoot himself and is in hospital.
