One man has died after a vehicle crash and submersion northwest of Wichita.

A semi-truck hauling a trailer crashed into a car driven by 58-year-old Clifford Bliss of Sedgwick; it happened Tuesday evening at 109th Street North and 167th West, about a mile west of Bentley.

After the impact, both the semi- and the car landed in a drainage pond, with the driver’s side of the car under water. Bliss had to be rescued, and when he was pulled from the water, he was not breathing.

EMS and fire first-responders were able to revive him; he was hospitalized in critical condiiton, but later died.

Investigators say the semi-truck and trailer had been to Bentley to drop off a load of grain at the elevator. The truck was west-bound on 109th St. North, and had the right-of-way.

The car was north-bound on 167th, and apparently did not stop at the stop sign.
