Two women were victims of crime early Monday evening in the parking lot of Towne East Square shopping center in Wichita.

A 74-year-old woman told police she was leaving Von Maur when she was approached by two suspects; one of them, described as a 16-year-old black male, asked to use her cell phone. She refused, then was battered by the suspects, causing minor injuries.

About an hour later, a 57-year-old woman, an employee at JCPenney, was leaving work and walking to her car when two suspects approached her. One of them demanded her car keys, and she was then battered by the suspects. They took her keys, and drove away in her 2003 silver Buick Park Avenue, with license plate 410 JGS.

The first suspect in the carjacking was described as a 14-year-old light-skinned black male, wearing a light gray hoodie, and dark pants. The second suspect was described as a 17-year-old black male wearing dark clothing.

Investigators believe these cases may be connected.
