Wichita City Council approves 2019 Budget

August 14, 2018 - 11:45 am

The Wichita City Council held their final public hearing Tuesday regarding the 2019 city budget and the 2018-2027 Capital Improvement Plan.

The Council heard concerns from citizens on topics such as the arts, fire and police funding, the city's animal shelter and Old Cowtown.  Cowtown is fully funded through 2019 and any potential changes won't be voted on for another year.

Some sympathized with the Council, knowing the tough decisions they had in front of them.

Mayor Jeff Longwell said work will have to be done to address program funding in the future.

Ultimately, the Council passed the combined budget and CIP measure 6-1, with Jeff Blubaugh from District 4 the only no vote.
