The Wichita City Council formally approved the city's 2021 budget of $629 million.

The council restored about $390 thousand in proposed cuts to the animal control budget, thanks to increased revenue from licensing and fees. The animal shelter will make other operational changes as well.

Management of Century II will be privatized. Arts and cultural services funding will remain flat, after a 5% cut in 2020.

The city will also see savings from lower fuel costs and energy efficiency and library services will be restructured.

A record 52 speakers voiced their opinion about the budget.

The city projects a nearly $17 million loss next year thanks to COVID-19 related impacts.
