The Wichita City Council approved several new contracts at their Tuesday meeting.

That included a new 3-year deal with the firefighters union, which represents around 421 firefighters in the Wichita Fire Department. Eligible employees will receive merit based step increases of 2.5% and general pay adjustments of 1.5% in 2020.

A 3-year agreement with the airport union was unanimously approved.  The union represents 24 police and fire employees at Eisenhower National Airport.

The council also approved the 2020 contract with Visit Wichita, for just over $2.5 million and finalized the city's 2020 insurance program.

Finally, the group set a public hearing for January 14, regarding the Douglas Design District just east of the downtown.  The council wants to set up a business improvement district for that area, which would benefit businesses located north and south of Douglas between Washington and Oliver.
