Wichita City Council discusses downtown building renovations

The Wichita City Council considered a petition for some building renovations in the downtown.

The project price tag is 12 million dollars to renovate facades for four buildings and asbestos remediation in three of them. One of those properties include the former Finney State office building.

The project will be financed by special assessments.  The owner will initially pay the construction costs and reimbursed after the work is done and additional requirements are met.

The council passed the petition and Mayor Jeff Longwell was excited about the investment. "It's nice to see people that want to invest in the core of our city and spend literally millions of dollars to make some dramatic repairs to some old buildings," he said.

A medical and trade school is in the works for a couple of the properties.
