Wichita City council discusses optimized emergency response project

The Wichita City Council learned Tuesday about efforts within the city and county to optimize emergency responses.

Wichita Fire Chief Tammy Snow discussed how the city and county worked together in their optimized deployment project.  When a medical call comes to 911, they determine the severity of the call and send the appropriate crew to the scene.  The goal is to still have crews available for higher priority situations.  Chief Snow called the project a success story and pointed out some of the early statistics.

“(We) have reduced our medical calls by 22 percent since 2015 and 2018.  Our low acuity calls have been reduced by 51 percent”, Snow said.

She also expected a reduction of 10,000 calls by the end of this year.
