The Wichita fire department responded to four fireworks-related fires on Independence Day and the following morning.

Acting fire marshal Stuart Bevis says the worst of those was after midnight Wednesday on Mars Street, west of Douglas & Maize, where fire consumed a garage, resulting in its roof collapse. Trash cans with disposed fireworks were found in the area; that fire caused $80,000 in damage, and the Red Cross was called in to assist the family at that location.

The other fires:

*Late night on Independence Day, in the 1700 block of S. Millwood, spent fireworks at the base of an exterior wall caused $5,000 in damage, and the total loss of a shed.

*After 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, a house fire on N. Crestline, north of Central & Maize, started by a trash container next to the house with fireworks & trash inside; estimated $10,000 in damage.

*2:00 a.m. Wednesday, a house fire near 29th North & Woodlawn on Pepperwood Court, started by a trash can with fireworks next to the exterior wall of the house; estimated less than $10,000 in damage.
