A wanted suspect was arrested in Wichita; it happened late Wednesday afternoon at the Union Rescue Mission in the 2800 block of N. Hillside.

Officers came to the scene, looking for a 53-year-old man who had an active arrest warrant from the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Police officer Paul Cruz says as officers approached the man, he grabbed a butter knife from a table nearby, and stabbed the officer in the chest, just below the neck area. The suspect dropped the knife, then he was apprehended after a short foot chase.

The knife did not penetrate the officer's protective vest, and the officer was not injured.

The suspect, who has a lengthy criminal history in Kansas dating back to 1990, was booked into jail for the attempted murder of an officer, aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and the outstanding warrant.
