Wichita man arrested for capital murder, other charges

The Wichita Police Department has arrested 25-year-old Daniel Lopez of Wichita for capital murder, criminal possession of a firearm, aggravated assault, and two outstanding Sedgwick County warrants.

Lopez was arrested without incident Friday night at a home in the 4600 block of South Gold, where he was staying with family members.

Lopez was wanted for the shooting deaths of 24- year-old Mickayla Sorell and her 8-year-old daughter, Natalya Sorrell. 

The bodies of both victims were found Monday afternoon, March 31, inside a residence in the 4500 block of South Walnut, after Mickayla Sorell did not report to work.  

Police say the shootings took place on Saturday, March 28. Lopez was identified as the suspect in the case and was subsequently charged by the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office on Friday, April 3.
