A man who was armed was shot and killed in the southeast part of Wichita, after trying to calm down a disturbance among neighbors.

After 5:30 a.m. Saturday, police were called to the scene not far from Pawnee & Oliver, where it was reported people were fighting with each other, and shooting at each other.

Arriving officers found a victim lying on the sidewalk near his front porch, with multiple gunshout wounds to his torso. The victim was 43-year-old Ray Nunley; he died at the scene in the 2200 block of S. Glendale.

Investigators believe there was a disturbance among several people in an adjoining duplex, and Nunley went next door trying to calm things down -- that's when he was shot and killed.

Police arrested 28-year-old Aubrey Oliver, who was booked into jail on a charge of first-degree murder. Oliver had just been released last summer after being in prison for a decade for a murder case in Hutchinson.

This was Wichita's 42nd homicide case in 45 weeks this year.
