Wichita Mayoral candidate files lawsuit over political commercial

Wichita Mayoral Candidate Brandon Whipple has filed a defamation lawsuit against a man who he says produced and released a campaign commercial accusing him of sexual harassment.

The lawsuit says an LLC was formed in New Mexico, which hired a Wichita production company run by Matthew Colborn to create the commercial.  The lawsuit also states, dialogue used in the ad was taken from a 2017 Kansas City Star article, but didn't apply to the candidate.

KSN News reports that Whipple believes two un-named supporters of Longwell were behind the negative ad.

"Jeff Longwell is the one benefiting from this," Whipple said.

Mayor Longwell says he has condemned the ad.  "We had no knowledge of it," Longwell said.  "It didn't come from anyone working in our campaign," he added.

Whipple is asking for over $75,000 in damages.
