The Wichita City Council deferred a motion on expanding term limits for mayor and city council members.

The council was set to discuss expanding term limits from 2 to 3 at Tuesday's meeting.  However, Vice-Mayor Jeff Blubaugh said the message from Wichita citizens was very clear.

"No decision should be made without a public vote.  Knowing how passionate the public is about the term limits, it might be a good opportunity to have the discussion with the county as well, as there is currently no term limits for the county commission," Blubaugh said.

The council voted unanimously to defer the item to one their meetings in February 2020.

Wichita’s mayor and city council members are currently limited to two consecutive four-year terms.
