The Wichita Police Department says there has been a spike in motorcycle thefts.

13 motorcycles have been stolen since August 1, in the Patrol East Bureau, most of them south of Kellogg.  The majority of these thefts have occurred in apartment complex parking lots but some have been at single family residences too.

Lt. Scott Brunow with the WPD Auto Theft Section had these tips for owners.  "Park in well-lit areas, don't keep the keys with the motorcycle.  There are some auto-theft or some motorcycle theft prevention devices that you can buy to put on your motorcycle to prevent that from happening," he said.

WPD says some of the motorcycles have been recovered.  So far in Wichita this year, 52 motorcycles in total have been stolen.
