The Wichita Park Board voted Friday to close a public golf course in Wichita...

Board members voted 4-3 in favor of closing the Clapp Golf Course during a meeting Friday night.

The public course is at Harry and Oliver. And the decision comes just weeks after city staff recommended the course be shut down, citing the course is on track to lose over $250-thousad dollars this year alone.

Prior to the vote, board members heard from over than 100 people who packed city hall to voice thier support for the golf course.

Friday's decision would mean closure of the course in September, but the Wichita City Council still needs to vote on the issue.

Should the council vote to close Clapp, the park board will look at ways to use the land and develop it into something else.
