On the hectic final shopping weekend before Christmas, you'll see the police horses in busy parking lots throughout Wichita as part of an annual holiday patrol.

Police Sgt. Ed Brower says you'll see the horses in the high-density shopping areas from Saturday through Christmas Eve, such as Bradley Fair, New Market Square, Towne East Square shopping center, and Towne West.

The horses are useful in helping to spot any suspects peering into cars, or to pursue larceny suspects running out of stores.

The horses are also used every Friday and Saturday for crowd control in Old Town, and they'll be downtown on Christmas Eve & New Year's Eve as well.

The Wichita police Mounted Unit recently added a pair of Clydesdales to its stable -- Hero, and Keeper. And now, a third donated Clydesdale, Angus from Oklahoma, has been trained and is ready to join the Unit.
