Wichita Public Works prepares for snow

January 11, 2019 - 11:38 pm

The rain on Friday delayed treatment of Wichita area streets ahead of weekend show, but city crews are ready.

Deputy Director of Public Works, Joseph Pajor, says the rain doesn't give them much time to prep roads, but the equipment and staff are prepared for the conditions.  "At midnight we will have a relief full crew come in of 50 operators, 50 trucks," said Pajor.

KSN News reports that crews will continually monitor the elements in case they need to change their response.

Pajor says they will use a 50/50 sand and salt mixture to address possible freezing, and help with traction.  "This will be the most significant weather that we've seen so far in this season," said Pajor.

Officials remind drivers to slow down, increase your following distance, and give yourself extra time to get to your destination.
