The local Red Cross is asking for blood. Norma Dixon with South Central and Southeast Kansas Red Cross tells KNSS News donations were down during the holidays, by about 27,000 units. The Red Cross has only a three-day supply of blood. They want to keep a five-day supply. You can donate blood at 707 North Main in Wichita. No appointment necessary.
The Red Cross chapter executive director - Shannon Wedge - tells KNSS News the chapter includes 21 counties in Kansas. Last year the chapter in Wichita collected 48,000 units of blood, provided assistance at over 340 house fires, and trained more than 11,000 people. "We reach a lot of people", Wedge says.
