WICHITA, Kan. (KNSS) – When the need arises the Red Cross rises to the occasion.  Now, two volunteers from the Wichita area are in the Gulf Coast region hit hard by Hurricane Harvey.

Chuck Coe and Colin Hoyt have been volunteering for the Red Cross for over 50 years, and this is one more assignment for them to help out the people in need.

“This is just a part of what we do,” said Hoyt. “We love helping people and the place that needs us the most right now is Texas so, that’s where we’re going.”

KSN News reports that the pair met at the Douglas Red Cross location early Monday morning to prepare their Emergency Response Vehicle for the trip

Both Colin and Chick expect to provide food and help at shelters but their day-to-day assignments depend heavily on the changing needs of the affected communities.

Jennifer Sanders, Red Cross director, says that by Tuesday there will be at least 1,500 volunteers on the ground to assist and offer aid to the communities affected by the hurricane.
