The Wichita City Council approved $40 million in industrial revenue bonds to Spirit AeroSystems.

The IRBs for the city's biggest employer will help fund bay upgrades, chillers, cranes, cooling towers, lighting upgrades, chemical mill improvements, industrial waste line, road improvements and more.

Council member James Clendenin praised Spirit for the work they do for the community.

"(We're) very grateful for Spirit solidifying their footprint in the city of Wichita, and any time that we can continue to solidify that footprint we're willing to take a look at that," Clendenin said.

Spirit received about $280 million in bonds back in May 2016.
